Areaware: Totem Candle Packaging
Student Project: Desert Rose
At Pratt we were required to take a course in fragrance design. I was skeptical at first, as there is still an inner punk kid in me that blames the cosmetics industry for so many of the body image issues that plague young women and men in this country. However I showed up to the class with an open-ish mind and I'm glad I did.
The concept is Desert Rose, drawing formal inspiration from the mighty cacti. I sought to express the tension between allure and danger that is so beautiful in the cactus. The bottles are made from a frosted glass with unpolished steel caps.
I used Rhino as my 3D modeling tool and rendered in Keyshot. The physical bottle was generously prototyped by Utley's in Queens.
